Today, the Arture team accompanies you on the battlefield with the French War Culture Collection. Through different weapons and armors, it traces evolution of warfare techniques. This collection also illustrates “art of war” by showing protection and defence weapons used for military parades and which are true masterpieces of silversmiths.

5 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT FRENCH WAR CULTURE
Most of the armour used by soldiers on battlefields has now disappeared, constantly evolving, they have been melted down. On the other hand, parade armor is more preserved.
Horses could also be equipped with armor. The set is called a barding, and the chanfron was name given to the part protecting the head. They were developed at end of Middle Ages, with aim of protecting horses during cavalry charging.
Battles are not only during wars, tournaments are organized during the Middle Ages, then duels. Dueling is the best way for men of honour to repair any injustice. The arquebusier of Louis XIII, Marin le Bourgeois, was inventor of the flintlock. A mechanism that revolutionizes firearms. This mechanism will be used for more than two centuries.
Piraube was the first arms manufacturer of Louis XIV, like all best craftsmen, he was installed in the Louvre.
